Drink it in? Whisky tour of the Highlands

Who doesnt love a "wee dram" ? Following on from our blog about the wonders of whisky in the Highlands, we thought we would offer some inspiration for anyone planning their next Advanture


Se here at Advantures , we have looked into where to visit and create a 5 ,7 and 10 day journey into the World of Whisky


We would love to hear what you think , and please do make suggestions !!


Day 1: Inverness to Beauly (Approx. 50 miles)

  • Start your journey in Inverness, rent a campervan, and stock up on supplies.

  • Visit Glen Ord Distillery for a whisky tour and tasting.

  • Drive to Beauly and explore its charming village.

Day 2: Beauly to Ullapool (Approx. 70 miles)

  • Drive to the Rogie Falls and take a scenic hike.

  • Continue your journey to Ullapool.

  • Visit the Ullapool Distillery for a taste of their unique whisky.

  • Enjoy the stunning sunset at Ullapool's harbor.

Day 3: Ullapool to Durness (Approx. 90 miles)

  • Drive along the scenic coastal route to Durness.

  • Stop by the Knockan Crag National Nature Reserve for a short walk.

  • Arrive in Durness and explore Smoo Cave.

  • Relax by the campfire and enjoy a whisky tasting under the starry skies.

Day 4: Durness to Thurso (Approx. 120 miles)

  • Visit Balnakeil Craft Village in Durness.

  • Drive to Thurso, stopping at the Strathy Point Lighthouse.

  • Explore Thurso and its surroundings.

  • Head to Wolfburn Distillery for a whisky tour and tasting.

Day 5: Thurso to Inverness (Approx. 110 miles)

  • Start your journey back to Inverness.

  • Visit Dunrobin Castle along the way.

  • Explore the town of Dornoch and its historic distillery.

  • Return to Inverness and end the trip with a visit to Tomatin Distillery.


7-Day Itinerary for Whisky Lovers :

Follow the 5-day itinerary above, and add the following days:

Day 6: Inverness to Grantown-on-Spey (Approx. 40 miles)

  • Explore the city of Inverness.

  • Drive to Cawdor Castle and its picturesque surroundings.

  • Visit Benromach Distillery for a whisky tour and tasting.

  • Continue to Grantown-on-Spey and spend the night.

Day 7: Grantown-on-Spey to Aviemore (Approx. 15 miles)

  • Explore Grantown-on-Spey in the morning.

  • Drive to Aviemore and visit the Speyside Distillery for a whisky experience.

  • Enjoy outdoor activities in the Cairngorms National Park.

  • Return to Aviemore for a relaxing evening.

10-Day Campervan Itinerary for Whisky Lovers on the NC500:

Follow the 7-day itinerary above, and add the following days:

Day 8: Aviemore to Pitlochry (Approx. 65 miles)

  • Drive to Pitlochry and explore its charming town.

  • Visit Edradour Distillery, one of Scotland's smallest distilleries.

  • Enjoy the scenic beauty of the surrounding area.

Day 9: Pitlochry to Stirling (Approx. 60 miles)

  • Drive to Stirling and visit Stirling Castle.

  • Explore the city and its historic sites.

  • Head to Deanston Distillery for a tour and whisky tasting.

Day 10: Stirling to Edinburgh (Approx. 40 miles)

  • Explore more of Stirling in the morning if time allows.

  • Drive to Edinburgh and visit the Scotch Whisky Experience for a comprehensive whisky tour.

  • Spend the rest of the day exploring Edinburgh's attractions and enjoying the city's vibrant atmosphere.


Remember to check the opening hours and availability of distillery tours in advance, as they may vary depending on the season and local regulations. Enjoy your whisky-filled campervan adventure.


These are only suggestions and remember to consider where you are picking up your camper from, we are based in Alness, near Inverness , so you may want to reverse the longet trip to save time !!
